Los Angeles traffic is just the worst. When it's not car chases or random looky-lou slowdowns, it's someone with a plane having to make an emergency landing.
Fortunately, no one was injured when a small plane reporting engine trouble during its approach to John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana made an emergency landing in the middle of a Huntington Beach residential street.
The Cessna 172 was reported down in the area of Hamilton and Newland Street in Huntington Beach around 5 p.m. Friday afternoon, about five miles south of John Wayne Airport. Authorities say the pilot had just taken off from the airport.
The pilot made the emergency landing after her engine lost power mid-air an official with the Federal Aviation Administration said. Authorities said she made the call to land on the street, ultimately ending up at the intersection.
The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was not hurt.
"This could have been really, really bad," witness Tory "TJ" Johnson told ABC 7. "Flew underneath all those wires, which is a pretty big deal. Those wires hang down pretty low and could have killed the power throughout this entire block. It was pretty gnarly."
The FAA is investigating the incident and will issue a full report at a later date. The plane was moved and will be taken apart to determine what went wrong in the air.
