TORRANCE (CNS) - An officer-involved shooting in Torrance today left a person dead.
The shooting occurred about 8:50 a.m. in the 20000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, said Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris. Officers went to the location on ``a service call involving a subject brandishing a knife in the area of Planet Fitness,'' he said.
``Responding officers contacted the subject, who refused to comply with commands,'' the sergeant said. ``Officers initially utilized various less-lethal options, but the subject continued toward them. The subject continually refused to comply, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.
''The suspect died at the scene, Harris said. Information was not immediately released on the person's gender, age or identity.
Harris said ``edged weapons'' were recovered at the scene.
