DUI Arrests Up Over Last Year's Total

 LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol today reported four traffic-related fatalities on Los Angeles County highways and surface streets under their jurisdiction during the first 36 hours of this year's three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and ended today at 6 a.m.

During the same period last year, there was just one traffic-related death.

Statewide this year, there were 14 traffic-related deaths during the period, the same as last year.

In Los Angeles County, the CHP reported that 125 motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, up from last year's total of 122.

Statewide, there were 674 DUI arrests, up from last year's total of 599.
