Dwayne Casey Fired By Toronto Raptors

Nope.  There'll be no waiting until the NBA Finals are over before Toronto Raptors head coach Dwayne Casey makes his departure.

Despite his recognition as being the best coach in the team's entire history, Dwayne Casey has been fired.

He had one year left on his contract, worth $6.5 million.

Raptors president Masai Ujiri released a statement about the termination:

"After careful consideration, I have decided this is a very difficult but necessary step the franchise must take.

As a team, we are constantly trying to grow and improve in order to get to the next level. We celebrate everything Dwane has done for the organization, we thank him, and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.

He was instrumental in creating the identity and culture of who we are as a team, and we are so proud of that."

Support came out in droves for Casey, and rightfully so.  The Raptors franchise had never passed the first round of the playoffs before he came along.

Last but not least, the great LeBron James put in his two cents:

"I'm the last guy to ask about what people are saying on social media.

That's not a field of my life at all, it sucks that with the great season that they had, and I'm just going off my own mind right now, just looking at the level of success they've had over the last three, four years maybe.

But I guess their front office wants playoff success. That's what it boils down to, I guess."

With Casey as a new-found free agent, he'll surely be top pick for the other teams in the league.

Matt Money Smith of the Petros and Money Show called in to Conway today to talk about the firing.
