Adelanto Mayor Detained After Search of Home, City Hall

Adelanto Mayor Rich Kerr has been detained by the FBI following a pair of searches at his home and at City Hall Tuesday morning. The search warrants are still under seal, so law enforcement is remaining mum on what detectives were looking for in the raids, but the city has been the subject of an ongoing investigation into public corruption.

Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office told the AP that the Internal Revenue Service investigators had partnered with the FBI and the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office in the investigation.

Kerr has acted as mayor of Adelanto since 2014. The desert city has about 32,000 residents, and is located about 60 miles north of L.A..

In November, Pro Tem Mayor Jermaine Wright was arrested in an FBI sting and indicted on bribery and attempted arson charges. Federal officials say Wright took a $10,000 bribe and tried to hire someone to burn down his restaurant, Fat Boyz Grill, so he could collect on the insurance.
