Man Detained in Stabbing Death of 66-Year-Old Woman in Rolling Hills

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies say they've detained a person of interest in the stabbing death of a 66-year-old woman at the Promenade on the Peninsula mall in Rolling Hills Estates Thursday afternoon. Authorities released a photo of the man, who they say may have information about the stabbing late Thursday night.

On Friday, the department said they had taken in a man along Pacific Coast Highway in Harbor City who "may POSSIBLY be the person of interest."

The man resembles the transient caught on surveillance footage from yesterday's attack. There's no word on whether he's a suspect or a witness. Detectives are still questioning him.

The 66-year-old Susan Leeds was found in her Mercedes SUV with multiple stab wounds with her throat cut, in the parking garage in the Promenade mall.  Investigators say they aren't aware of any motive for the stabbing and are still trying to determine whether she was a victim of a robbery. It's the first homicide in Rolling Hills Estates since 2009.

Sheriff's investigators are asking anyone with any information regarding the death to please call them at (323) 890-5500.
