A Southwest Airlines flight headed for Newark, New Jersey was forced to make an emergency landing on Wednesday thanks to a broken window.
Flight 957 from Chicago was forced to divert to Cleveland, Ohio just before 11 a.m. local time two hours after taking off according to the website FlightRadar24.
Photos posted to Twitter showed a giant hole through one of the Boeing 737's windows next to one a row of passenger seats.
Following the incident, Southwest issued a statement, saying the flight crew was in control of the situation.
The Crew of Southwest Flight 957, with scheduled service from Chicago-Midway to Newark, made the decision to divert the plane to Cleveland for maintenance review of one of the multiple layers of a window pane. The flight landed uneventfully in Cleveland. The aircraft has been taken out of service for maintenance review, and our local Cleveland Employees are working diligently to accommodate the 76 Customers on a new aircraft to Newark.
The broken window comes just two weeks following a fatal accident on Southwest Flight 1380 in which an engine exploded, sending shrapnel through a window, shattering it and killing a Wells Fargo executive who was nearly sucked out of the plane.
