For the last 28 years, thousands of people from all over California and neighboring states have flocked to the Del Mar Fairgrounds to participate in the long-running Del Mar gun show. But some people say they're gearing up to protest an event
Supporters and critics of the gun industry are scheduled to speak at a public meeting with the Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors. Officials say the show has been a large source of revenue for the County.
Folks who are against the gun show say if they aren't able to shut it down, they plan on demonstrating against it on opening day June 1st. The recent pushback against the show has grown out of the activism prompted by the shootings that killed 17 people at a high school in Parkland, Florida.
“Our point is to end the gun shows,” Del Mar resident and local NeverAgainCA leader Rose Ann Sharp told the San Diego Union Tribune. “The gun shows are just not healthy for our community.”
In March, the Del Mar City council approved a resolution that called for stricter gun control measures, including an appeal to the State assembly to craft legislation that would prohibit future gun shows at the fairgrounds.
