Things you expect to see walking along the beach. Sand, sand castles, seashells, driftwood, seaweed.
Wait a second...that's literally Sea Weed!
KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara says a viewer alerted them to a new kind of 'sea weed' washing up on the shore of West Beach on April 7th.
The video (shown above), circulating on social media, shows two men picking up and showing the camera a pretty substantial amount of marijuana buds on the shoreline of the beach, mixed in with the regular drift material deposited there.
Harbor Patrol Supervisor, Erik Engberetson, told KEYT that they're not sure where it came from, but it's likely connected to a call they received on March 31 from a dredge company that reported seeing marijuana floating in the water.
“Smuggling is a possibility. We don’t know if this product was a result of the dredging operation or if it washed onto shore. We did pick up some of the substance and disposed of those.”
He said the Harbor Patrol is still investigating but other agencies, including the federal government are looking into it as well.
So, if you're visiting West Beach anytime soon keep an eye out for some sweet buds.
