An LA lawmaker Looking to Fight Mapping Apps

City Councilman Paul Krekorian is looking to see if mapping apps should be responsible for where it sends drivers. He says cars are directed down quiet streets to save a couple minutes, however, this can cause public safety hazards.

"A street is designed for a particular amount of traffic, a particular flow of traffic then all of a sudden that is dramatically altered because of one of these mapping apps."

This is the second time Krekorian has tried to regulate map apps, he agrees the technology comes with a lot of benefits, but "we also have to look at the unanticipated detriments to society that come from it and find a way to fix those."

"It really changes the expectation that our traffic engineers had when they designed these streets."

Krekorian says his motion seeks to work with map apps to make the directions safer.
