Officers Okay Following Suspect Shooting

Two LAPD cops in the West Valley are going to be OK after getting hurt during a confrontation with a carjacker. Police Capt. Patricia Sandoval says one officer has a knee injury, but the other only has minor cuts and scrapes.

"Both of the officers are OK, and they are stable. One received some cuts and scratches, the other a little more serious injury to his knee," Sandoval said at a press conference following the incident.

According to police, officers shot and killed the suspect near the border of Reseda and Woodland Hills yesterday when he reportedly reached for his waistband after a short high speed chase.

"We do know that our officers fired, but I do not know if the suspect fired. But force investigation will be able to give us that information as the investigation progresses," Sandoval said.

Investigators will look through body cameras and video from the police cruiser. A weapon was recovered at the scene, but it's still unclear whether the suspect actually shot at the cops.

Sandoval said the injured officers are being treated at a hospital in Northridge.
