Missing CDC Employee's Body Found In Chattahoochee River

Missing CDC employee's body found

Atlanta Police announced Thursday that the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office had identified the body of a missing employee from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The body of Timothy Cunningham, an epidemiologist at the CDC, was located in the Chattahoochee River in northwest Atlanta late Tuesday night. No other details about the body's location were released.

“The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the body recovered in the Chattahoochee River in NW Atlanta late Tuesday to be missing CDC employee Timothy Cunningham,” Atlanta police tweeted. “A press conference will be held at 2 p.m. ET at APD Headquarters on the investigation."

For months, police searched for clues to Cunningham's disappearance. But after he was last seen leaving work early on Feb 12th, authorities had come up empty.

"The most unusual fact, in this case, is that every single belonging that we are aware of was located in the residence," O'Connor said. "So his keys, cell phone, credit cards, debit cards, wallet, all of his identification, passports – anything you can think of we've been able to locate."

Fox5 Atlanta reports that before he went missing that morning, Cunningham called his sister and talked to a supervisor about a promotion he didn't receive. Several co-workers reported that Cunningham had been disappointed after not being promoted to the branch manager position.

Questions remain around Cunningham's mysterious disappearance, including a "disturbing" text send to Cunningham's parents about 24 hours before he vanished. Authorities have not elaborated on what the text contained.

A $15,000 reward is being offered for any information about the CDC employee's disappearance.
