The "Roseanne" revival had an astounding ratings debut with more than 18 million viewers Tuesday night. Now, we all know that President Trump is particularly obsessed with ratings and he took it upon himself to personally call Roseanne Barr and congratulate her.
Speaking to Good Morning America, Roseanne said that she and the President had a private conversation about the television business. Barr's character, Roseanne Connor, is a staunch Trump supporter and much of the show's content is about that story line and how some of the rest of her family disagree.
Roseanne explained that she was surprised Trump would reach out and call her personally but that it was very sweet of him and that they've known each other for some time.
“We just had a private conversation,” Barr said. “We talked about a lot of things. He’s just happy for me. I’ve known him for many years. He’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years. It was just a friendly conversation about working and television and ratings. He really understands ratings and how they measure things.”
She explained that her hope for the revival will demonstrate a need for people who disagree politically to find a way to get along.
“Conflict resolution and agreeing to disagree are important things that I like to feature and talk about,” Barr said. “That’s what we need to do as a country, figure out what we don’t like, talk to each other and discuss how we’re going to get it changed or fixed. … I hope it opens up more civil conversation between people instead of this mudslinging. I really think we need to be more civil.”
