Last week a homeless family was found dead in their van parked in a Garden Grove strip mall. Only the adult male's identity has been released and with it comes a long criminal history including conspiracy to commit murder and child abuse.
Phunyouphone Kanyavong was found dead along with his girlfriend and their two young children. The children, both under two, were wearing diapers under their pajamas and had blankets covering the windows. While the cause of their deaths is still under investigation, Police Lieutenant Carl Whitney believes the family died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Kanyavong was currently on probation for a 2015 weapons conviction.
