A woman has been killed and a man injured in what authorities are calling an alleged murder-attempted suicide at The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks Saturday afternoon.
The victim was identified as a 30-year-old woman from Thousand Oaks and the suspect, a 33-year-old man from Los Angeles. Ventura County Sheriffs department spokesman Garo Kuredjian said that the victim and the suspect are a divorced couple with children.
The sheriff's department says they received a call of shots fired from inside the Paper Source store at the Oaks Shopping Center. Authorities say the victim was an employee there and was "targeted" by the suspect.
It was not an active shooter incident and is being described as an attempted murder-suicide.
Sheriff's deputies entered the store and found the woman dead and the suspect "gravely injured" from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where is condition is currently unknown.
A gun was recovered at the scene and there are no outstanding suspects authorities said.
Video posted to social media showed shoppers running for safety after hearing gunshots at the mall. Shoppers were told to seek safety at the VCFD Fire station 30 across the street.
The Oaks Mall's indoor portion reopened shortly after 4 p.m., but the open air portion remains closed while authorities continue their investigation.
