North Korea Reportedly Willing To Talk About Its Nuclear Weapons Program

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un said he could be willing to negotiate with the United States about giving up his country's nuclear weapons according to a report from the New York Times. South Korean officials held a rare meeting in PyeongChang with high ranking officials from the North, including Kim Jong Un to discuss the rising tensions in the region over North Korea's nuclear weapon program.

A statement from the South said the North seems willing to get rid of its nuclear weapons if its security could be guaranteed. The North was also willing to stop nuclear testing during any “heart-to-heart” talks with the U.S.

The North side clearly affirmed its commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and said it would have no reason to possess nuclear weapons should the safety of its regime be guaranteed and military threats against North Korea removed

President Trump praised the progress on Twitter

Possible progress being made in talks with North Korea. For the first time in many years, a serious effort is being made by all parties concerned. The World is watching and waiting! May be false hope, but the U.S. is ready to go hard in either direction!

The two countries have also agreed to a summit meeting between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in in April.
