Armed Teacher In Custody After Barricade Situation At High School

Police say they have Randal Davidson in custody after barricaded himself inside a classroom and fired a pistol at Dalton High School in Georgia. According to News Channel 9, the school was evacuated after police responded to reports of shots fired.

The school's principal was alerted to the situation by students who were denied entry into Davidson's classroom. The principal approached the classroom and tried to unlock the door with a key when the shot was fired through an exterior window.

Police stressed to parents in a Facebook post that no children were in danger.

Once police entered the building, they found a teacher barricaded in a classroom. Police managed to de-escalate the situation and took the teacher into custody after around 45 minutes.

Police told parents they should not come to the high school to check on their children. Students were being taken to Northwest Georgia Trade Center, where parents could go to pick up their children.

Police said one student suffered a sprained ankle while evacuating the building.

According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the schools in the area have seen multiple threats of violence in the wake of the school shooting in Florida. Last week, authorities took three individuals into custody for allegedly making threats to student safety.

One girl was accused of sending herself a threatening message on Snapchat and attempted to convince people she was in danger. Another student was charged with filing a false report after a circulating a meme that some parents perceived as a threat to violence at the school.
