STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — Search crews have found the body of a woman knocked by a car into a deep-water channel after stopping to help a man stranded on a Northern California highway.

The Sacramento Bee reports San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office boat crews found the body of 26-year-old Doris Wilson Tuesday in the deep-water channel under an Interstate 5 bridge.

The California Highway Patrol says Wilson and her boyfriend had stopped Saturday to aid a man who was standing in the center median.

The CHP says a Chevrolet driven by woman then crashed into the Honda.

CHP officers believe either the Chevrolet or the Honda hit Wilson and her boyfriend.

Crews had searched for Wilson for three days.

Her boyfriend was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
