A woman who's plot to kidnap a 12-year-old girl in Santa Ana was foiled by another woman being hailed as a hero.
KTLA spoke to the girl, Amy Martinez, who says she was walking to school when a woman she thought was homeless approached her.
"She just came up to me and went like this," Amy said, simulating a bear-hug. “And then she started walking with me away.”
Amy said she screamed for help. "She told me in Spanish not to cry, but I wasn’t even crying," she said.
As the suspect, later identified as Claudia Hernandez Diaz, was dragging Amy down the street, a good Samaritan passed the two by in her car.
She had just dropped off her own child at school and quickly realized what was happening.
The woman stopped Diaz and told her Amy was her child and to let her go; her trick was successful and after making sure Amy was safe at school the police were alerted and Diaz was taken into custody.
