The debate continues over laws restricting guns after the Parkland, Florida school shooting. The "Bay Area News Group" reports that California gun control advocates say tougher Florida gun laws might have prevented the tragedy, or made it less lethal. A spokesman for Gun Owners of California disagrees, saying the focus needs to be on the shooter, not the weapon.
California has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, while Florida has no state restrictions on assault rifles or ammunition. Nineteen-year-old Nikolas Cruz bought his assault rifle legally in Florida, then allegedly used it to kill 17 students and staff at the school. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Cruz had "countless magazines" of ammunition.
