High Desert Freeway To Link High Desert Towns In L.A., San Bernardino

When the Century-105 Freeway opened in South Los Angeles in 1992, it was billed as the last freeway that would ever be built in Southern California.  But now, the "Los Angeles Times" reports the California Department of Transportation is quietly laying the groundwork for an eight lane freeway in the high desert between the Antelope Valley-14 Freeway and Interstate 15.

The environmental impact report is already approved and Caltrans will begin buying land in June for an $8-billion, 63-mile, high speed thoroughfare between the L.A. County towns of Lancaster and Palmdale and the San Bernardino County communities of Victorville, Apple Valley and Adelanto.
