A man who was fatally stabbed in Lancaster last weekend is being hailed as a hero by friends and family.
At least one man tried to force his way into the victim's residence on Gadsden Avenue in Landcaster around 10 p.m. Saturday night Deputy Charles Moore of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.
Friends say as the man tried to force his way into the home, the victim, Joshua Ketchum stepped in between the attacker and his friend. The attacker grabbed a nearby beer bottle, and tried to stab his roommate. Instead, Ketchum took the impact of the bottle and later taken to the hospital where he later died.
"The victim was confronted by the suspect and a physical altercation occurred," Moore said. "The victim sustained at least one stab wound to the mid-torso area."
The family says Ketchum had autism and was only acting under instinct to protect someone who was like family to him. Friends have set up a GoFundMe account and are organizing a car wash to help with funeral expenses.
A suspect was seen leaving the apartment on foot, but so far, has not been arrested.
