The Justice Department threatened to subpoena 23 'Sanctuary Cities' today unless they turned over information about how they implement sanctuary city policies toward illegal immigrants. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said cities like Los Angeles enact policies that have placed the safety of their communities and residents at risk.
We have seen too many examples of the threat to public safety represented by jurisdictions that actively thwart the federal government’s immigration enforcement—enough is enough.
Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Garcetti fired back at the Trump administration and the Justice Department today saying that the administration was practicing the "politics of distraction and destruction."
"There is not a single mayor in this country that says 'Please, if you're a criminal, come on over. And if you're undocumented, bonus points!' This is a myth," Garcetti said.
The director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement joined John and Ken today to talk about the subpoenas, and what they could mean for cities like Los Angeles.
