Dozens Missing In Deadly Southern California Mudslides

At least 43 people remain unaccounted for after deadly mudslides in Southern California.  Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown gave the new figure yesterday as search and rescue operations continue around the clock.  Seventeen people are confirmed dead.

Brown called the deaths tragic and said the victims range in age from three to 89 years old.  The sheriff announced the mandatory evacuation area is being expanded to allow crews to clear roadways.  He added that the Army Corps of Engineers is bringing in heavy equipment to assist the difficult operation.
