DA Wants Man Who Fatally Punched Deputy To Go To Prison

San Bernardino County authorities aren't mincing words regarding the man accused of causing the death of a beloved deputy.

District Attorney Mike Ramos says Alonzo Smith needs to spend the rest of his life in prison for his alleged role in the death of Deputy Lawrence Falce. Surveillance video captured Smith sucker punching the off-duty Falce as the two talked after they were involved in an accident back on Sunday morning.

Police believe the punch caused Falce to lose consciousness and hit his head on the pavement, which caused a brain injury that he never recovered from. The 70-year-old deputy was taken off life support two days later. Detectives say Smith is a career criminal. He pleaded not guilty to murder charges yesterday.
