California is the Nation's First Sanctuary State

California officially made history in becoming the country's first sanctuary state.

Lawmakers say with the new statewide designation will help all California communities fight crime.

Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese says hos district has elected to not help federal officials round up undocumented people.

"It's basically saying, 'Look we have DACA youth by the thousands and immigrant workers by the hundreds of thousands, and it is our intention to treat them in the jails like anybody else'."

Last year when President Trump issued an order to cut funding to counties that refuse to assist and Santa Clara stood to lose $1.7 billion in funding.

However, others weren't on the sanctuary train.

Anonymous street artists placed signs underneath the "Welcome to California" highway signs.

The signs saying...

“OFFICIAL SANCTUARY STATE, Felons, Illegals and MS13 Welcome! Democrats Need The Votes!”

...were placed north of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Primm, Nevada and on Highway 95.
