San Francisco Joins Two Other Cities in DOD Lawsuit

San Francisco is joining New York City and Philadelphia in a lawsuit against the Department of Defense.  The lawsuit alleges that the DOD has failed many times to advise the FBI about former servicemen who are prohibited from buying firearms.

The lawsuit says the DOD's failure to report servicemen convicted of crimes while in the military, or dishonorably discharged, has led to tragedies such as the November 5th shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, carried out by a dishonorably discharged Air Force member.

The lawsuit states that without such information, those former service members are able to buy weapons the law says they are not allowed to possess, and seeks more oversight to make sure the DOD properly reports such information to the FBI.
