Entire Arizona family identifies as transgender

An entire family of four from Queen Creek, Arizona has come out as transgender. 41-year-old Daniel Harrott, who is the biological parent of two trans children, was assigned female gender at birth and is now a transgender man.

His son and daughter say they were also assigned the wrong gender at birth. Harrott met 62-year-old transgender woman Shirley Austin and now the two are engaged.

Austin told KJZZ:

"The whole family is in transition."

Harrott said:

"It feels like you're getting to live for the first time, and my children are getting to be who they've always wanted to be."

Harrott's 11-year-old son Mason was assigned female gender at birth and is now a transgender boy. His daughter Joshua, 13, was assigned male gender at birth and is a transgender girl. She says she knew she was trans when she was about 6 or 7.

Harrott lived most of his life as a woman, but says that makeup and female clothes never felt right. He married a man and gave birth to his children without ever feeling like his true self.

Last year Joshua wanted to join the Girl Scouts, and that's when Harrott was introduced to the term "trasngender:"

'When I finally looked ['transgender'] up, I realized, 'Oh my gosh, they're trans, and I know it's true – because I am, too, and it's been my whole life."
