Thomas Fire in Ventura Burns 115,000 Acres, Only Five Percent Contained

The Thomas Fire, located north of Los Angeles in Ventura county, has burned about 115,000 acres so far and is still only five percent contained according to fire officials who are battling the blaze for a third day.

Fire authorities say a woman's body was found in a car near Ojai, marking the first death

Homeowners have been warned by fire officials to be ready to evacuate when the order comes. One man from Ojai said he's loaded up his valuables in his car and he and his family are ready to go once they get the word.

"When you're out here and you're smelling the smoke, and you're feeling the wind, and you're seeing how close it is. You realize minutes away that everything you own could be gone."

The fire also created a loss of water pressure in the city's municipal water system which has prompted a boil order from the Casitas Municipal Water District. Residents in the Upper Ojai Valley, Casitas Springs Foster Park and the entire City of Ventura are being advised to boil their tap water to a roiling boil for about 1 minute to ensure the water is safe to drink.

Sheriff's deputies were going door-to-door in some east Ojai neighborhoods last night telling residents to be prepared to evacuate. Fire officials say they're concerned that the 100,000 acre fire could spread into parts of Ojai and the city of Fillmore later today.

Authorities say the Thomas fire has already destroyed about 150 structures.
