Here Lies the Most Liked and Retweeted Tweets of 2017

2017 is finally coming to a close and this morning, Twitter released its end-of-year statistics. Among that data were the ten most retweeted tweets and the three most liked tweets in the world this year, and surprisingly, none of President Donald Trump’s tweets made the list.

At #1 with the most liked tweet of 2017 (as well as the second most retweeted) was Barack Obama's message after the Charlottesville march. As of now, it has over 4.5 million likes so far, with the description: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion..."

Coming in at second place is Ariana Grande's tweet after the Manchester attack, which was also the fourth most retweeted of 2017.

In third place for likes is Obama once again, with a tweet in support of John McCain after McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer in July.

16-year-old Carter Wilkerson had not only the most retweeted tweet of 2017, but the most retweeted tweet of all time. And it was just him asking Wendy's for a year's supply of free chicken nuggets.

The Pennsylvania State University Interfraternity Council made the list after the council tweeted that they pledged to donate 15 cents to Houston relief efforts for every retweet it received. It went viral at the end of August, and raked up 1.1 million retweets.

A Linkin Park tweet also made the top ten most retweeted list. The band tweeted a photo of lead singer Chester Bennington after he killed himself at age 41, and today, it’s almost up to 800,000 retweets.

Obama made the list for the third time with a tweet that he sent out the last day he was in office.

Detroit Lions punter Sam Martin follows Obama’s post with a tweet in which he pledged to donate 6 pounds of dog food for every retweet he received to go to Houston after the city was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The tweet now has over 600,000 retweets -- that’s a lot of dog food!

And ending the list is Seth Joesph, a former Viner and self-described social influencer, when he tweeted about suicide prevention at the end of August.
