Today is World AIDS Day and there are calls for researchers and health care providers to pay more attention to men and boys. A new report by the U.N. Program on HIV/AIDS says men made up nearly 60% of the global 1 million AIDS deaths last year. The report says in the world's hardest-hit region, sub-Saharan Africa, men account for only a little more than 40% of people infected with the AIDS virus.
AIDS specialists who support the U.N. report say targeting men is essential to eventually ending the AIDS epidemic.
