It can be very intimidating to fly for hours to a foreign country where they don't speak English, but luckily for you, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has done all the hard work for you and compiled a list of the safest cities to visit.
The EIU used data from 44 specific indicators in 60 major cities worldwide to put together their Safe Cities Index 2017. The cities were ranked on their digital security (privacy online and identity theft risks), health security (quality of air and water, environment cleanliness), infrastructure safety (roads, bridges, buildings), and personal safely (crime, violence). After gathering this data, the EIU consulted with researchers to cross analyze this information with sources like the World Health Organization and here we are with the following list of the top ten cities, starting with the safest:
Tokyo, Japan
Singapore
Osaka, Japan
Toronto, Canada
Melbourne, Australia
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Sydney, Australia
Stockholm, Sweden
Hong Kong
Zurich, Switzerland
Tokyo Japan has taken the top spot for three years in a row, while Toronto is the highest ranked city not in Asia.
