LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California is in for a big warm-up this week and possibly record heat on Thanksgiving.
The National Weather Service says a ridge of high pressure building into the region and weak offshore flow will start warming the region Tuesday.
Temperatures will be warmest on Wednesday, with highs 15 degrees to 20 degrees above normal in many areas, ranging from the low to mid-90s in some spots.
The weather service says the highest temperature recorded in downtown Los Angeles on a Thanksgiving Day was 90 degrees on Nov. 26, 1903. That's the same high forecast Thursday, but it could be a degree or two hotter.
The date of Thanksgiving varies annually and this year falls on Nov. 23. The daily record for that date is 91, set in 1933.
