LOS ANGELES (AP) — An accounting clerk at a Southern California high school and her daughter have both been sentenced to prison for embezzling $189,000 from a school bank account.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says 62-year-old Juanita Boranian and 31-year-old Erika Boranian each received four-year terms on Thursday.
The elder Boranian pleaded no contest to eight felony counts including embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds. The daughter pleaded no contest to two counts of grand theft.
Juanita Boranian was an account clerk for the Associated Student Body at Mark Keppel High School in the Alhambra Unified School District. Her daughter was a volunteer cheerleading coach and helped her mother with the student body fund.
Prosecutors say thefts were concealed for years by manipulation, alteration and destruction of records and receipts.
