LOS ANGELES (AP) — The mayors of Los Angeles and New Orleans toured a rail construction site to highlight the benefits of urban transit growth.
Traffic-choked Los Angeles is in the midst of a major rail-building spree to offer commuters more options to get out of their cars.
Wearing hard hats, Mayors Eric Garcetti and Mitch Landrieu walked into a huge tunnel Friday being built in downtown LA that by 2021 will unite several lines.
Garcetti says he's been talking with the Trump administration about landing more federal dollars to continue rail development.
He says California deserves to see more of the tax dollars its sends to Washington come back to the state.
Both mayors have been mentioned as possible national candidates in 2020.
