LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Kevin Spacey was without a talent agent or a publicist today, with both having abandoned him over a string of complaints beginning with an actor's account of how, when he was14, a 26-year-old Spacey made an unwanted sexual advance toward him.
A representative for CAA -- Creative Artists Agency -- confirmed that the `House of Cards' star, who signed with the agency in 2009, is no longer a client, the Los Angeles Times reported. Publicist Staci Wolfe also confirmed Thursday evening that she and Polaris PR had split from Spacey, according to the newspaper.
On Sunday, Spacey was accused of making an unwanted sexual advance in 1986 toward then 14-year-old actor Anthony Rapp. Spacey was 26 at the time.
Rapp made his claim to Buzzfeed. Spacey responded with a statement saying he did `not remember the encounter' but added an apology ``if I did behave then as Rapp describes.'' In the statement, he also finally confirmed that he is gay, which earned him widespread criticism from members of the gay community arguing that being gay is no excuse for a sexual assault on a child.
The fallout from the Rapp accusations has been swift. On Monday, Netflix announced that the upcoming sixth season of ``House of Cards,'' which Spacey executive-produces and stars in, would be its last.
On Tuesday, filmmaker Tony Montana, came forward alleging to Radar Magazine that Spacey drunkenly groped him in a Los Angeles bar in 2003. Also on Tuesday, ``House of Cards'' producers Netflix and Media Rights Capital announced they were halting production indefinitely on the show's sixth season to review the unfolding situation and address cast and crew concerns, The Times reported.
Additionally ... a ``robust'' Oscar campaign to garner Spacey a best supporting actor nomination for his performance in Ridley Scott's upcoming ``All the Money in the World'' was scrapped in light of the scandal, Variety reported.
Wolfe, who was still Spacey's publicist at the time, released a statement on the actor's behalf Wednesday, asserting that ``Kevin Spacey is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment. No other information is available at this time.''
``Late Night With Seth Meyers'' writer Jenny Hagel Wednesday lambasted Spacey and his response to Rapp's accusations that Spacey sexually assaulted him.
``As a gay woman, I have a lot of problems with Kevin Spacey's statement,'' she said, arguing that Spacey coming out in response to the allegations was completely inappropriate because ``those two things are totally unrelated.''
``The only appropriate response to ``you tried to have sex with a 14- year old'' is ``I am also a 14-year old,'' Hagel said after Myers turned the show over to her.
She also took issue with Spacey chalking up his actions to ``drunken behavior.''
``That makes it sound like every gay person is two beers away from molesting a kid,'' she said.
``The gay community has been made up of brave, brilliant people like Alan Turing and Audre Lorde and Billie Jean King,'' Hagel said. ``You're not in the gay community. You're in the creep community. Go celebrate creep pride, and throw a little creep parade, and leave us out of it.''
