Second Week of Kate Steinle Trial Underway

(San Francisco, CA)  --  The second week in the trial of the man accused of killing Kate Steinle is underway.  Prosecutors contend that illegal immigrant Jose Ines Garcia Zarate intentionally fired a stolen gun at the 32-year-old woman on a San Francisco Pier back in 2015.

Zarate faces 15-year-to-life if he's convicted.

Witnesses to the shooting testified last week, as did the park ranger who had his gun stolen from his car.  The gun was later allegedly used by Zarate.  The defense says the shooting was an accident.

The trial sparked the sanctuary cities debate. President Trump has invoked her name in blasting so-called "sanctuary cities." The trial is expected to last into December.
