On Tuesday, child and toddler toy powerhouse Fisher-Price announced a recall of 63,000 motion seats in the United States and 2,000 in Canada, calling them a fire hazard. The company believes that the motor housing in the seat could possibly catch on fire.
According to the HuffingtonPost, four models were posted, including Price’s “Soothing Motion Seats” and one model of its “Smart Connect Soothing Motions Seats”. The model numbers you should look out for are CMR35, CMR36, CMR37 CMR39 and DYH22.
The seat is meant to bounce, sway, vibrate, and play music and nature sounds.
The official notice released by the company notes that Fisher-Price has already been notified of 36 different instances in which the product overheated. One managed to start a fire within the motor housing. No injuries were reported, in regards to that instance.
Consumers were able to buy the chairs at Buy Buy Baby, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, Walmart and online at Amazon.com from November 2015 through October 2017. They retailed at $160 for the Soothing Motions Seat and $175 for the Smart Connect Soothing Motions Seat.
Owners of the product are being advised to look at the model number on the bottom of the motor housing. United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) also recommends that consumers contact Fisher-Price for a refund.
Fisher-Price was recently involved in another recall in the spring of 2016. The CPSC issued a notice for 34,000 “Cradle ‘n’ Swing” products because of a seat peg that could cause the swing to break, making the seat fall.
