How to Know When the Party is Over

Dinner Party GETTY

Don't be that guy. You know the one I'm talking about - maybe drank a little too much and has to 'walk it off' in the living room long after the dinner party has ended. Don't be the guy sitting on the couch while you're hosts pace the kitchen waiting to go to bed.

Etiquette expert, Thomas Blaikie, has some rules to follow if you want to be a good guest and continue to have those invites roll in:

On weeknights you should leave no later than 10:30pm, on the weekend you can push it a little later and scram by 11:15pm.

Blaikie says that it's best to leave when it feels natural and that a good way to be able to do this is to turn down any post dinner drinks and to steer clear of hard alcohol. This way you're not putting any added burden on your hosts to prepare or serve drinks, and that you're sober enough to go when you're ready.
