NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - A 300-gallon sewage spill today forced a waterfront closure at the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach.
A leak in a sewer pumping tank from Ruby's Diner that is below the pier was reported about 9 a.m., said Anthony Martinez of the OC Health Care Agency.
Signs were posted warning people to stay out of the water 1,000 feet upcoast and 1,000 feet downcoast of the pier for at least three days, Martinez said.
Officials will restore ocean access in the area when water-quality standards are met, he said.
