A shooting has been reported at Texas Tech University, resulting in the death of at least one campus police officer. The campus's Emergency Communications Center sent out an alert at 8:23 p.m. alerting students that the campus was on lockdown. The all-clear was given around 9:34 p.m. after the suspect was apprehended.
A statement from the university identified the shooter as 19-year-old Hollis Daniels.
According to University spokesman Chris Cook, campus police were making a welfare check on a student where they encountered evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Officers brought the suspect into the campus police station for questioning.
Cook says, that's when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, killing him. The suspect then fled on foot and was later captured near the north side of the campus.
