If you're looking to try and beat the heat at the beach this weekend, forecasters are warning you to be careful. Large waves and dangerous rip currents at south-facing shores are being forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That's going to make for some great surfing, but dangerous swimming.
The upcoming heat wave will not only extend the dog days of summer, but the high pressure system sitting over the eastern Pacific will combine with a local offshore flow that will get the wind moving. That will help push waves higher, with experts expecting swells of 3-to-6 feet on Friday and Saturday with some 7-to-8 foot sets possible.
Authorities are warning beachgoers that strong rip currents will be likely at Southern California beaches this weekend, so be aware of the conditions around you.
