MORENO VALLEY (CNS) - A vehicle slammed into the side of a building in Moreno Valley today, splitting open a gas line in the wall and prompting an evacuation of the premises, but the driver was uninjured.

The crash was reported about 8 a.m. in the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard near Frederick Street, just south of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

About two dozen firefighters determined that the ruptured gas line posed a safety risk, evacuated the business and cordoned off an area within 500 feet of the site as a precaution.

Utility workers shut off the gas and began making repairs about 9:30 a.m. Evacuations were lifted and the area was declared safe by 10 a.m.
