LANCASTER (CNS) - A 19-year-old Lancaster man who was struck by a patrol vehicle while fleeing authorities was in custody today on suspicion of assaulting and kidnapping his girlfriend.

Deputies received a report at 10:07 p.m. Thursday that a man was assaulting a woman in the 1000 block of East Avenue J, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The suspect and the victim fled in a gray Nissan and deputies searched the area for the vehicle. The suspect was seen driving in a reckless manner before his vehicle became disabled in the area of 15th Street East and Kettering Avenue, Schrader said.

The suspect fled the vehicle on foot as deputies arrived. He ran in front of a patrol vehicle before it could stop and was struck by the vehicle, Schrader said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being released into sheriff's custody for booking.

The man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and kidnapping his girlfriend, Schrader said.

The 19-year-old victim was found safe in the suspect's vehicle and treated at the scene for minor injuries sustained in the assault, Schrader added.
