SoCal Brusher Prompts Freeway Shutdown, Threatens Homes

A brush fire in Sun Valley has firefighters concerned as they fear it could grow quickly.  The fire broke out this afternoon off La Tuna Canyon Road, just south of the 210 Freeway.

That roadway was shut down and about a dozen homes in the area are threatened as swirling winds and dancing spot fires gave crews plenty to worry about.  Fire authorities said the blaze had the potential to scorch 2,000 acres.  The CHP reports the 210 Freeway was closed eastbound at Sunland Boulevard and westbound at Lowell Avenue. The twelve mile stretch could remain closed well into tonight.

Residents on three streets have been asked to evacuate. The fire, which has grown to around 300 acres is visible for miles around. Temperatures remain in the triple digits make for tough conditions for the firefighters at the blaze.
