5 Freeway To Shut Down Between San Gabriel Freeway and Norwalk Blvd

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The California Department of Transportation will shut down the Santa Ana (5) Freeway tonight between the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and Norwalk Blvd., with related ramp closures, beginning at 9 p.m, 11 p.m. or just before midnight, depending on the location.

The closures will last until at least 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. Friday, depending on the location, according to Cal Trans officials.

Crews plan to pour the bridge deck of the new half of the Florence Avenue bridge. This activity will require the full closure of northbound and southbound 5 Freeway at Florence Avenue, as well as the closure of the Florence Avenue bridge at the 5 Freeway.

The following closures are planned for tonight but subject to change:

-- Northbound 5 Freeway will be closed between Norwalk Boulevard and the 605 Freeway from 11:59 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m., Friday.

-- Detour: Motorists will exit the northbound 5 Freeway at Norwalk Boulevard off-ramp, turn left on Norwalk Boulevard, turn right on Firestone Boulevard and proceed to the northbound 605 Freeway on-ramp; then transition onto the northbound 5 Freeway.

-- Southbound 5 Freeway will be closed between the 605 and Norwalk Boulevard, from 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

-- Detour: Motorists will be directed onto the southbound 605 Freeway to exit Firestone Boulevard, east on Firestone Boulevard, east on Imperial Highway, south on Southbound Frontage Road to access the southbound the 5 Freeway on-ramp.

-- Northbound 605 Freeway connector to southbound 5 Freeway will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

-- Detour: Motorists will exit the northbound 605 Freeway at Imperial Highway off-ramp, east on Imperial Highway, south on southbound Frontage Road to access the southbound 5 Freeway on-ramp

-- Southbound 605 connector to southbound 5 Freeway will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

-- Detour: Motorists will continue on the southbound 605 Freeway, exit Firestone Boulevard off-ramp, east on Firestone Boulevard, east on Imperial Highway, south on southbound Frontage Road to access the southbound 5 Freeway on-ramp.

This work is part of the $644 million 5 Freeway South project to add car pool and regular lanes to the 5 Freeway between the 605 Freeway and the Orange County line.
