Consumer confidence in the nation's economy is strengthening along with confidence among California and the western part of the country. According to Gallup, the economic confidence index in August is at its highest levels since mid-March.
That translates into about 37% of residents describing the economy as excellent or good and 19% rated economic conditions as poor. Throughout California and the western portion of the country, consumers rated their economies as the second best in the nation, only behind states in the south. The causes behind the increase are consumers confidence in the business and industry sector as well as the decline of weekly jobless claims.
