LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Retailers are bracing for another run on lottery tickets as Southland residents join others across the nation in trying to win tonight's $700 million Powerball jackpot, the second-largest in U.S. history.
One ticket with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, was sold in last Saturday's drawing in Los Angeles at Vercher's Central Liquor Store in the 12000 block of South Central Avenue. That ticket is worth almost $1.1 million.
Tickets will be sold until 7 p.m. tonight, with the draw taking place one hour later.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in about 293 million, according to the Powerball website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.
The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
