An attempted rape was caught on security camera footage in Van Nuys and several witnesses are seen passing by without calling for help.
The Los Angeles Police Department says the incident happened early Saturday morning as the woman was returning to her home from a coffee run.
Authorities say a man approached her and began speaking to her in Spanish.
When she got back to her apartment door she asked him to leave her alone and when she tried to get in her building, the man blocked her way several times.
Police say he began to touch and harass her, then he was able to pull the victim to the ground and was able to take off her pants and underwear.
Captain Lilian Carranza says what is also seen on the video is several cars slowing down as the assault is happening and there is even a woman who is seen walking down the sidewalk but didn't stop.
“If you see a fellow human being that needs help, make that phone call.”
Carranza says the victim fought back and was screaming "fire" as the suspect attacked her.
Investigators say the man is believed to be in his 40s, is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, is described as having a bald or shaved head and was wearing a baseball cap with an emblem and possibly a button up polo shirt.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 818-374-0007.
