A wildfire in the hills above the University of California, Riverside is 30% contained after firefighters spent the night beating back flames away from the inland Southern California neighborhood.
Cal Fire previously reported the blaze had been 44% contained, but that number was revised downward after officials were able to get a better look at the blaze in the daylight.
The fire, which broke out Sunday afternoon in the foothills of Box Spring Mountain, scorched at least 1.5 miles of dry brush. Evacuation orders were briefly in place until firefighters were able to push back against the flames using retardant-dropping aircraft.
